Question Toys...what's off limits?

What "toys" do you NOT let your bird have? and why?

I will not use any toys that have bells that have colors on them,The color chips off,These made my Lory very sick. I prefere to make my own toys that way you know what they are chewing on.

You know Mark, I found this question a little difficult for some reason. I haven't really come across any toy that I wouldn't let Ryan play with. However, I do get nervous with anything pointy. I have these thick toy pencils that he loves to chew on. I'm so afraid he's going to stab himself with them! He walks around with them in his mouth and I get freaked that he'll poke his eye out or something.

I haven't taken the pencils away from him (yet), as he likes them too much. But I won't let him play with them unless I'm watching.

Sound strange or what?

Off limits is chain! I now replace any chain on toys with the large link plastic chain and this is why;

Well, this morning she got the chain wrapped tightly around her leg. Luckily I was a few feet away and saw what happened immediately.

Kita allowed me to hold her on her back in the palm of my hand while I lifted her up to release the tension on the chain and un-wrap it.

All the chains on these toys have now been replaced with the large plastic chain that cannot wrap around.

I have said my prayers and thank you's that I was right here and for Kita cooperating the way she did to allow me to get her out of a dangerous situation quickly with no one getting hurt.

Someone was graciously watching out for us today.

Oh gosh, there are too many to name. A big general no-no for me is buying toys that aren't wrapped in any packaging from a store that has birds. I typically shop only online now. I don't buy from places that accept returns (bird decides he doesn't like the toy after beaking it a few times so owner returns it...).

Ollie can remove the clapper from those liberty bells in about 10 seconds flat so she doesn't get those anymore.

Those baby links that are so widespread I only let her play with outside of her cage. I'm paranoid about appendages getting stuck and I'm always supervising when she's out of her cage anyway.

No mirrors, although I make a slight exception for Dakota. His most beloved toy has a shiny mirror-like piece, but it's not a very clear image at all.

Another thing I'm really careful with is making sure the toys/parts are size/species appropriate. Sometimes things I buy online I find to be too small or too weak for Ollie's beak.
