Default Rope dangers

I had a what could have turned into a fatal disaster last night. Keke was playing on her cage as she does most nights. There are a number of ropes that she plays with and like most birds rips them apart. Normally I check them to make sure that they are not to shredded. Well she got one apart and managed to get her head in it. It was around her neck and she couldn't get it out. Once she pulled it only tightened on her. We had to cut her out. One cut and it did come off but there was no way that she could have gotten herself out.
She was freaked out as much as we were and required a good long cuddle after from her Mom and Dad.
She had managed to kind of unwind the rope so that there was a space that she could fit her head in so I will be checking not just for the small stray pieces that could get around her but the larger ones now.

Isn't it awful how every single toy we have for the birds can turn into a dangerous thing? I am obsessive about these things but, every time I think I found something safe, somebody posts something like this!

Oh! So thankful that turned out allright. Bless your hearts! SCARY! Ruby managed to "string" the end of a ribbon once and got her foot all wrapped up in it. I couldn't see the string (being blind ha!) but I could tell she was sitting sort of funny. When I went to touch her I felt it. Give Keke kisses from me and Ruby. But for the grace of God.......

Thank god everything turned out good. We actually have to always make sure the toys are safe for our feathered friends.

My little cape, Jupiter, got his foot very tangled in my hair in all of about 10 seconds when I was trying to get him off my shouldar. I had to cut that area of hair off and then untangle and cut it from his foot. He was quite annoyed

I am very careful with ropes as they can get wound around feet so easily but this was a twisted rope that some how she managed to untwist. We still haven't figured out how she managed to get her head in there. The rope it self was less than a week old as she love to play with them. I think I will be sticking with braided rope as it is harder to untwist. She has had no ill effects from it and we are glad that she isn't showing any fear of rope. But she is having a tough week last night while playing one of her hang by her beak games fell off her boing and banged her wing. Well she ran to mom for some cuddles (the only time she wants me to cuddle her is when she is scared. every other time it is Dad all the way). After she was done being scared she beak bonked me then laughed and went back to playing. They are such amazing beings!
