Actually, PVC is not good for parrots that like to chew and have the strength to go through it. It is a plastic and, as such, undigestible, so if a parrot eats it, it will get crop impacted and die.

Here is a website about the toxic properties of PVC, It is a very enlightening article and it makes you think twice about PVC.

We used to have a PVC pipe playstand, the birds always slipped on it. They do have stuff you can put on it to make it not as slippery. Ours never chewed on it, too busy trying to stay on it LOL. We have large Manzanita stands that the birds love. Manzanita is pretty costly though.

I use PVC for gyms/stands. I wrap Vetrap on it for grip and replace it every few weeks or sooner if needed. I have toys hanging all over the gyms and never has Ollie shown any interest in chewing on the PVC. I couldn't even see how it would be possible- I use 1" which is too big for her to get her beak around for any purchase, plus like was mentioned earlier, its very slippery thus the need for Vetrap. As long as all the ends are enclosed in end caps I don't see how the pipe could be chewed on. Just based on my experience. I will continue to use PVC for gyms- it's easy and fun to work with.
