Default Question about weed killer?

My boyfriend just sprayed the whole yard with Spectracide/ Triple Strike weed killer. It says on the container it is harmful to humans and pets!
He says after a couple of hours when it dries it is ok but I am not so sure of that. I am worried about the wild birds and squirrels if they eat the seed off the ground where it was sprayed. He does this very often and it upsets me!
I know this is a parrot site but my dogs also eat the grass and weeds when they are not feeling well!
Any info.? Searched the web and did not come up with too much.

Gee, Donna. I don't have any hard information either, hopefully someone will come along with some. All I can tell you is that I refuse to use any pesticides or herbicides on the lawns or gardens here. I'd never take a chance like that with so many little lives. Heck, I won't even use Turf Builder or anything like that on the lawn.

Thanx Nate, There is not too much info. on the container as far as pets or wildlife ingesting it. Me personally, I would never even consider purchasing and using anything like that with pets and wildlife around, but I have no say here. Last time I saw him spray it I went out and hosed eveything down good, but I think that might make it worse. Abigail got scared off this morning when he was weedwacking so I do not have to worry about her eating any seed on the ground today.

:

Here is some information that you might want:

On herbicides and lawns | By Umbra Fisk | Grist | Ask Umbra | 03 May 2006

Green Lawn Chemicals is poisonous to dogs. They spray this stuff on your lawn to color, weed and kill insects. I don't even let my dog walk on those lush looking lawns. All that stuff is poison-there are man more "green " methods to weed your lawn.

Thanx Gini, I had read that site. It was the most informative. I am going to try to find a GREEN way to get rid of weeds for my boyfriend. It is super hot here in Florida today as you know, so the birds and squirrels are not out here. They are all hybernating in the shade somewhere.

Pesticides, fertilizers, can and will harm your pets.
After applying them start the sprinkler right away and cover the entire area treated to get the chemical down into the soil and away from pets and other creatures that may visit.
It maybe a good idea to avoid artificial fertilizers in the future, I use only organic's here's and when doing so I apply water right away to assure the mixture gets down to the roots, fertilizers do no good sitting ontop the grass waiting for a rain to fall, soooooo water right away...and water heavlily.
Many folks use a bagger these days, this starves your lawn and contributes to the fill of land fills, if you do use a bagger, it would be best to stop doing so.
I use a multching blade and mow often so one doesn't end up with what I call a Farmers field (piles of grass clippings).
Those grass clippings are much needed for a healthy lawn.
If you compost your clippings this if great, but the same thing happens to the clippings by letting them be spead out on your lawn, actually by allowing them to remain on your lawn they compost more quickly and in return save you extra un-needed work and feed your grass.
Good Luck
