PTFE and PFOA free "non stick" skillets. I have purchased TWO different PTFE-free pans by TWO different companies in the last week. The PTFE controversy is REAL and finally starting to be recognized by manufacturers and retail stores.
Cuisinart has a "ceramica" "green gourmet" non stick pan out as a test product in Bed Bath and Beyond stores; I did not see it online. Two sizes of fry pan, a griddle pan, and a short sided skillet pan. The labeling states that it is PTFE and PFOA free. I bought the littlest one, and have yet to try it. The small one was 30is dollars. I only discovered it/bought it last night.
Martha Stewart Collection, sold at Macy's, has a green pan made with "thermalon". This product claims to be environment friendly and PTFE free. They sell a wok, 2 sizes of fry pan, and a grill pan. I picked up the larger fry pan last weekend and have used it 4 or 5 times since... this thing is slicker than any teflon pan I ever had. We've made chicken fajitas, fried potatoes and several batches of eggs. This pan was also in the 30ish dollar range. We shall see how it holds up. This is the same technology that is in the "green pan" brand sold on HSN that some of us have had discussions about in the past; the reviews on the HSN brand pans are not good - mostly saying that the OUTSIDE finish flakes and peels. Martha's collection does not seem to have an outside finish to peel.
I don't claim to know if this stuff is the answer. But it is made with ceramics instead of teflon. It could be the answer, we shall see. I will visit this thread again in a month or so and let you know how they are holding up.
