Default Hemp Rope - Safe?

Would this Hemp rope be safe?

Natural Manila Hemp Rope (Great for Decorative Touches)

Available in 3 sizes:
1 Inch Diameter
1 1/2 Inch Diameter
2 Inch Diameter

Manila is a general purpose rope best suited for jobs where economy, strength, and durability are necessary. It has great resistance from mildew and agricultural deterioration.

Feel free to use this rope for playing tug of war at your kid's birthday party or even as a climbing rope for them to get into their treehouse. For the pet owner we get many request for this all natural rope. They all want to know if this rope is treated with anything. The answer is yes it is - it is treated with good old vegetable oil, that is all!

Ahlstrand Marine

Don't quote me on this, but I believe research I did indicated that E Star Birds Get A Grip nets are made from manila hemp. I looked into buying some to make one myself.

You are correct, Emily. They are made of untreated Abaca (hemp).

I sent an email to the company asking about anything that this rope may have been treated with. This is the reply I received;

Quote:
The only thing that it has been treated with is
vegetable oil. This we have confirmed with our
supplier. We have sold it to many that have had it
with birds and reptiles and we have never gotten any
complaints. We do not want any animals harmed either
but we can only go by what we have been told.
