Default Rough facial patch

It's not bad enough that I don't miss a weekly call with my AV or a monthly trip to see her, now I have questions on a Sunday!!

Kita's facial patch is very rough. It almost appears like she may have what looks like a little pimple or two.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be or anything I can put on it to soften it?

Karen,

Do you have an aloe plant? Next best would be aloe-gel, aloe is non-toxic. Compare your two birds and see what you think.

Thanks Gary, I'll try that.

Karen, I'm sorry you have a problem----are you competing w/me in the "I have no money because it goes to my birds" category? I know exactly how you feel.

I hope the aloe does the trick for you! Mary

Macaws sometimes get little pimple type bumps, it is normal. As long as it doesn't get worse/spread, she should be fine. Like Gary said aloe is a good idea.

My B&G will get them on occasion and they disappear in a couple of days. They only seem to appear during a molt.

Little Jack had a "pimple" like bump above his eye about this time last year. If I remember correctly the skin around the area was rough as well. (Probably from Seymour trying to preen it off ) We asked our AV if we should worry about it and she assured us his "pimple" was normal. But did warn to keep close watch for change. It eventually went away with time, and we didn't receive any medication for it. I hope Kita is alright, and that it is just a macaw "Pimple".

Another item that works well is Neosporin.
