All cats have pasteurella bacteria and it is normal for them, but it is deadly to birds even in small amounts. The bacteria is in their saliva and their claws.

I'm glad your little one seems to be doing well. I actually make a point of showing my petsitters how to "body block" the cage door for my smaller birds when they open it, since the little guys sometimes panic and get out. My budgies are pretty calm, so (knock wood) don't end up loose in a panic. My cats also know my panicky tone of voice (which they don't hear much) and go hide under the bed when I am chasing someone who got loose!

I hope the little guy pulls through this. Dog and human saliva can also be deadly to birds, but cat saliva is the worst because of pasteurella bacteria. Even a cat hissing/spitting in a bird's face is cause for concern.

We rescued many birds throughout my childhood from the mouths of dogs or cats. They would seem to be doing great for a day or so, and then would suddenly die. I didn't even know it was the deadly bacteria until a few years ago.

Well, it's been 38 hours so far, and she is still here. I hope that the fact that she is back to her old self today is a good sign. You could definitely tell she wasn't feeling well yesterday, and I even made DH go check the cage first thing this morning cause I didn't want to find her dead. But as soon as she started picking on Skye, I knew she was feeling better. The boys were very sweet yesterday, they knew something was up. Paulie sat right next to her all day, and Skye was near by. I guess she is the life of the party, cause when she's quiet everyone's quiet.
