I agree with Susan, keep him separated from your other birds.

I think ya mean an intravenous injection? Injection of what? More vitamins? Was he given an antibiotic and if so, what kind and what dose? If ya can't read the receipt, I would call and ask.

Moving him should be ok as long as ya have him in the warm hospital cage/tank/etc.... You did not mention if you took our advice on that and if not, why not, may I asK?

I have a question. You said you found him. Have you looked for the owner?

Yes he was always separated from my parakeets. I know all about quarantining new pets as I'm not a new bird owner.

Yes I have tried looking for the owner. I called the Manhatten pet shelter as well as the base vet that also does pet adoptions. No such luck. As well as posting something here in the forums.

Yes he was kept warm and given a shot with antibiotics but it all doesn't matter now. I tried my best and he died this morning. He is currently at K State and they are doing a necropsy. I gave him what I could and at least he's at peace now.

He was given a vibravenous injection.

Injectable Doxycycline
This drug, also know as Vibravenous, is given once every 5-7 days. Treatment is given for at least 6 weeks. Irritation can occur at the injection site, so it must be given under the direction of a veterinarian.

He was supposed to go back in next week for another shot.

I'm not meaning to be snippy or rude and I get that many of you here are bird lovers, as I am. I tried my best, I really did and my children and I are devastated.

I'm so sorry he passed - you did try your best. You can take comfort in the fact that you gave him a loving home for the last part of his life. And afterall, you'll never know what may have happened to him while outside, or how long he was outside. You did your best, that's all that counts, and I'm sure he knows he was loved.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for taking him in, going the extra mile and making his final days as comfortable as possible.

mad diva I'm very sorry for your loss. You did everything you could and sometimes by the time they have symptoms it's up to fate. I'm a heath advisor on a mammal site and frequently it's not a matter of money, regardless of thousands spent the animal can't survive.

Thanks for showing such kindness to him when it mattered the most.

Sorry to hear the lil tyke passed. Trying your best is of course all you can do. Thanks for that info. on vibravenos, I learned a new word today which is always why we all should be as specific as possible when explaining things, so everyone can learn someting or other.

Here is a lil info. I looked up for anyone that is interested.
