I had let Echo out late this morning. He was perched on the cage door, excited. I was loving on him when all of the sudden, he made what sounded like a cross between wheezing and whining. One ofour toy poodles is a spaz and makes a sound almost identical to it, but it isn't very loud. It frightened me and now I am questioning if there is anything wrong or was it just him. Would it be unusual for a grey to mimic a sound like that? Does your bird make a strange sound when they get excited? Echo has never done it before nor again...

I think Echo might like the sound your poodle is making.
see if it happens again and if there are any distress signs along with labored breathing.(drooped wings, tail bobbing, gasping for breath) those are the signs to watch for because it seems you just have the "sound"
Stirling Yawns. Yep...everynight after George does. He also coughs, sneezes and makes other bodily noises, 10x's as loud!

Tausi's not a Grey, but he does this. My partner is a smoker with the typical smoker's cough. Wouldn't you know that Tausi picked that up, and uses it all the time. Drives me nuts. You can't even clear your throat without him going off on a coughing spree!

He hasn't done it again, sohopefully it was just a sound! Thanks so much!

Funny you should mention this. About 2 years ago I had a horrible cold that settled in my chest and I had a vicious cough for about 2 weeks with it. I never have to wonder how I sounded as Stella mimics that cough whenever she hears me do little more than simply clear my throat!!
