I'm sorry, but I can't see how the pictures in that link look like the bird you found. They all look like baby birds, but the colors are very different and the starlings are a lot bigger. Your bird looks like a wren or something along those lines.

Edited to add: oops, sorry, somebody beat me to it!

I'm not trying to sound like a grinch or anything and this comment is aimed at the general public, not at the person who started this thread. I think everyone here loves birds and wouldn't hesitate to rescue a wild baby. But with baby birds it's really important to be sure they actually need help before you rescue them. Their parents are much better at taking care of them than we are, and rescuing a bird that isn't actually in trouble is harmful if it causes a permanent separation from the parents. I currently have a couple of young doves hanging out in my back yard looking abandoned, but I know they aren't because they fledged from a nest on my back porch and their mama is looking out for them even though I don't see her most of the time. This is normally the case with babies that are more or less fully feathered - they've just left the nest and will soon be independent, but for the moment they still need some parental assistance.

If you find a baby that has clearly fallen out of a nest (as opposed to fledging), the best thing to do is to put it back in the nest IF the bird isn't injured and if you can safely reach the nest. Otherwise put the baby in a safe warm place (like a box with a towel in it) and call a wildlife rehabilitator or other wildlife resource ASAP. They say that calling an avian vet is generally not a good idea because they're not likely to know much about wild birds.

Dry dogfood soaked in water is the best thing for a baby bird IF the parents have been killed or something ,
if the bird is old enough to run around and hide you can bet that the parents are still around and are taking care of it(at least most of the time)

Well stated teilfan,
There's much to learn about fledging, and when to help per say not to help.
I can't help but admire those that stop and help, many simply keep walking.
I would like to add a few words to yours.
If any of you folks can and or have the time, please help the rescue centers by volunteering, many rescue centers rely on donations and the Volunteer.
If possible a small donation will help.
The training and knowledge one can learn from volunteering will amaze you.
I admire and respect all who reach out to help those that can't help themself.
Peace.

Oh my gosh that little bird was adorable! I once saved a hummingbird that ran into the big windows at my workplace. Poor little guy ran right smack into it. I was going to leave him be but after a couple of hours he was still there. Seemed a bit dazed and confused. So I decided to help! I took him to the avian vet in town and he suggested that I keep the little guy for about a week or until he seemed okay. I made a mixture of sugar and water and also went and bought some flowers for him. After a couple of days he was good as new. I was so proud of my rescue!

I just got a black vulture yesterday that was hit by a rock truck(he is ok except for a broken beak that i fixed and he is a little banged up but doing fine)

Man vultures are cool birds and as smart as any parrot, i should be able to let him go this weekend if he feels like flying.

Time....whats that?, put in 85 hours this week, feet are very sore.
In my years helping wildlife I have found those that stop and help are very special people.
I blocked traffic with my truck one day to help a momma duck and her 6 little ones cross a buzy intersection, cars just kept going and she and her young where being bounced back and forth in the intersection.
I was alittle shocked because another truck had done the very same thing on the other side to stop traffic.
It took 4 minutes, four lousy minutes to allow her to cross with her young to safety...4 precious (human) minutes, oh believe me I got the finger from many, but then I gave them the finger also.
The world has went and got itself in a hurry, folks just dont have the time to enjoy all the animals and or understand how important they are to our happiness, serenity.
As new homes go up and the land is cleared, animals loose there homes, this forces them into the human world filled with dangers.
Many and I mean many little ones are put down at shelters, This bothers me a great deal however I see massive numbers being brought in, funding is limited, not many will help, am I justifying the (putting down) part, NO.
As a private rescue and rehabber I do all I can to help those that find there way to me, I have also had to put many down due to there injuries, a very heartbreaking (nightmare) world.
So if you find a wild bird that needs help, Please do all you can to help that little one, or any animal for that matter, The larger animals such as raccoons and such it would be best to contact a trained rescuer.
Helping any animal is a commitment, many won't make such a vow, fact is many will simply keep walking or driving, those that reach out to help need to know something, You are a special person, your kindness will be rewarded in some form and or manor, Frankly without your willingness to help, that little one would surely have parished.
Peace
