The poor boy has banged his wing again. It does not look as good as yesterday. I stopped the asprin and doxy so I guess I am giving some more asprin again for a few days.

I returned the birds to the aviary a few days ago. All seems to be well. He does not fly well, but he does not fall like a rock either. He seems to be getting better the more excersise the wing is getting. I do not like to keep birds in cages, and rather have them in the aviary.

Would he be better off as someone's pet at this point? Poor fellow. totally understand about the cage thing - but maybe some one on one?

He was not happy in the cage and he was not preening properly. He has been an aviary bird since 2004 so maybe a bit old to become a cage bird. My vet suggested that I get a suspended aviary for him and keep him as a pair rather than in a flight colony. He is once again preening so I think he is happier. He seems to be doing ok and getting around so as long as he does not get appear to be floor bound and sorry for himself, I think he is better off in the aviary. He is sort of flying much like a clipped bird that loses altitude. I will know he is happy for sure when he sings for the girls. I am also thinking of putting plank ramps for his use.

That's a great idea - might be kind of a fun thing for them all. I know Budgies love to fly but recently my 2 have discovered the floor. I tried to stop Laker from hanging out beside my drafting chair's shiny legs but it wasn't working & now Rio goes to the ground as well but for exploration expiditions. We humans have become very careful walkers. It is pretty funny seeing the 2 running around like a small whip or snake - one behind the other. They do get shooed into flight or go on their own, after a bit.

I know those budgie follow-my-leader trains. The pet budgies do that, although the front one is mostly making beeping noises so you know they on the move. It is cute the way they walk in single file, the suns walk around the floor in a bunch. Budgies do seem to be happy on the floor for exploring. I am sure a Laker & Rio train must be so cute, then you start wondering if you have a bird or a rodent.
