Just watched the Weather Channel. Oklahoma is in a state of emergency and they expect it to do the same think in Kansas. No electricity, heavy ice and rain. Here I sit with my air conditioner on because it's so hot and humid. It's so hard to believe how cold and snowy it can be in other parts of the country.

I hope you will be OK Camille. Keep us posted as long as you have juice.

Great advice from everyone - I hope your power stays on, Camille. We're having a good amount of ice and freezing rain too, but it sounds like you're getting it worse than we are.

Camille, they make battery powered socks for cold weather, you could get a pair and some batteries for under a towel in Olie's cage. Keep is cage covered with a blanket if it gets real cold.

Didn't know about the socks Gary. Good to know. The roads are already too bad to drive on, but those would be a good thing to have on hand for the future.

Still have power. Ollie just went night-night. Matt and I still going strong on the cramming for finals. We have one tomorrow at 11:50. Maybe we'll sleep, maybe we won't!

Thanks again for all your help guys! Hopefully we won't lose power, but if we do and I go missing, don't worry too much!

You cant drive on that ice Camille, please dont try it. We had it happen here several years ago and I ended up in a ravine. School may be closed tomorrow if its that bad. Stay warm sweetie, dont let Matt drive. You will be in my thoughts all night so keep us posted.

I just read this and you know I was thinking about that yesterday...what would happen if we lost power here for any length of time. I live in Alaska and it's winter. Thankfully it's not been too cold as of late. I know last year the week before Christmas my furnace broke and I didn't have birds then but I did have dogs and cats and thankfully I was able to get a space heater the next day... but that's electric and... I don't even want to think about that.

Gosh, I really don't have anything to add, except try to stay as warm as possible, and I agree with making a emergency kit, food for both of you, water, blankets, etc..... I'll send prayers your way that you won't lose any power. Stay safe, and stay warm.

It might be a good idea if we all had one of those portable batteries - so you could hookup when needed.

Like you I can't wait for this storm - we're supposed to start with the freezing rain this afternoon. The 29th floor is cold .... maybe being half underground will help.

I was thinking if possible those hand and foot warmers might be better placed on the bottom of the cage Warm air rises. Cover the cage with heavy blankets to contain the heat. Of course you don't want them in a place where the birds could eat them.
