Default whole foods - bee pollen w/ green

Hi,

i just wanted to get some of your opinions on this powder "supplement" that i bought from an organic grocery store called Whole Foods (not sure how big they are across the nation/globe, but they have pretty big stores around california and they only sell organic foods.

this powder supplement has bee pollen, spirulina, chlorella, barley, and wheat grass. is this a good mix of nutrition?

i plan on sprinkling 1 tsp on food for an amazon and 1/2 tsp for 2 conures once a week.

what do you think?

I can remember hearing something negative on spirulina, cant remember what though. Not much help on that I guess. I use Avian Trio. Its Bee pollen, Royal Jelly and Propolis.

I sing the praises of this stuff to everyone!

1 tsp over the other stuff might be a bit too much. Id start with a quarter tspn to start. I would also wait for more input on those other ingredients! I think wheat grass could be a bit heavy on their stomachs since its known to cleanse human bowels heavily.

Spirulina can be dangerous in large quantities, it also encourages breeding. I am not sure how pure the spirulina is, but 1/4 tsp a day is enough to feed 8 pairs.
I mix 1tsp spirulina, 1 vitamin, 1 mineral, 1/2 calicium in 4 cups of soft dry food then feed 1 cup of the mix per day mixed into cooked veggies and then divided to the 8 pairs of sun and irn. Also birds dont readily eat spirulina covered food, it has a very strong seaweed/algae smell. I am using pure spirulina that should be mixed 1tsp per 1kg of soft dry food.

Sure! I started using Avian Trio at the recommendation of the owner of Bird Paradise for my Goffins 2 Afa for feather quality. Well she was right! It didnt take long for her feathers to become so bright and colorful, it was amazing. The quality is so tight and smooth. Royal Jelly is what turns a bee into a Queen Bee. Bee Pollen and Propolis help develop a strong immune system and good growth. This product increased the appetite in all of my babies. When birds eat flowers in the wild, its to get these ingredients by instinct. All of my babies get a sprinkle evreyday!

I've heard great things about Avian Trio, and am planning on incorporating it into Ollie's diet sometime soon.

I believe Spirulina has been linked to toe-tapping, a common behavior in ekkies. That being said, a recipe for birdiebread that I've used before called for about about a teaspoon of it, and I never noticed Ollie having any problems with it.

You will love the Avian Trio! I was using Spirulina previously with my birds and my vet yelled at me - I MEAN YELLED AT ME! So I stopped using it. I was using it for all my birds from my Ekkies to my Macaws. Don't ask me why he said to stop using it - it was about 9 years ago and I forget the reason.

I just cooked by first batch of Beak Appetit a few days ago, and am still trying to get Ollie to eat it. She is so picky! I tried it, and liked it myself! It smelled like a pie baking when it was on the stove. I'm just trying one thing at a time so I can at least get ONE thing in to her! Avian Trio will be my next task!

Have you tried Asian Medley by Goldenfeast? My TAG literally runs to the door of her cage when she sees me coming with her bowl. And then says " MMMMMMMMM" "MMMMMMMMMM" "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"!
