Default what's you advise on flaxseed oil

I have been reading that flaxseed oil is good for pluckers, I was wondering what your take is for anyone who has a Grey. Do you offer the seeds themselves or just the oil? How much is the right amount of either?

I have Merlin a CAG who's not really a plucker he just shreds for some reason or another on occasion. I've heard that it makes their feathers look so much nicer. His feathers don't look as nice as I think they could. I adopted him only 3 months ago so we're still working on diet.

thanks for your help!

We sprinkle a small amount of flax seed directly into the feed.
Good luck

I get the cold pressed flax seed oil and keep it in the fridge. I put it in birdie breads or other foods that soak up the oil......

I used to put it in my sprout mix. Nope not gonna anymore!! Its a bit oily and makes the sprouts slimy. Flax seeds are in their mash tho.

I use cold pressed organic flaxseed oil. I sprinkle it on their fresh foods.

I put flax seed oil in BIRDIEBREAD™ -all three flavors. It has certainly been effective both in my Focus flock, in the IRNs I fostered and in some of my customers fids. Big fan of Flax seed oil here! I also give to Annie, my rescue dog who came to me last year with heartworm and respiratory problems, too. (ps. its good for you too!) I am going to test adding some Red Palm Oil to the batter this week and see how my tiels and the Focus Group react. Hopefully, it won't make a big difference in the flavor. The Avian vet who spoke to FWCAS and takes care of the Rescue birds highly recommends it.

Let us know what you think, Ginich. I bake for Buster and want to know if tiels respond to the RPO.

It was brought to my attention, however, putting oil (either palm or flax) on vegetables (i.e. foods that cannot absorb it) is a bad idea. What happens is that they put their beaks in their bowls oil gets on them and then they preen....end up w/oil on feathers.

I also use red palm oil.....

I purchased the whole seeds to mix in with Meko's food and I didn't see a difference in her plucking. With Meko it's emotional thing. Have you tried Pluck No More that worked wonders on Charlie an M2 we had at the rescue.

Thumbs up Buster

If you are talking about red palm oil, yes I believe they do. However, don't overdo it as too much fat can be harmful to tiels.

We noticed an improvement in "everyone's" skin and feathers when we used the red palm.
