Default What fruits and veggies do you feed?

We are trying to feed our birds more of a variety of fruits and vegetables. What do all of you like to feed yours? We have trouble getting our birds to eat different things, especially our grey. She is so picky and doesn't want to eat many fruits or veggies at all. Any suggestions on how to get her to eat more? Our eclectus is open to trying anything, but the rest of our birds don't like many different things. Thank-you for any suggestions!

I don't think there is a fruit or veggie that Eve hasn't tried! lol So as to not just list a bunch of stuff since it would be way to long. I'll what today's breakfast was.

strawberry, orange, granola/apricot baby food, birdie muffin made with....egg with shell, fennel, parsley, carrots, carrot tops, corn, apple, cinnamon, sunflower, walnuts, cranberries, and mango.

As for getting them to try new foods. you could try making toys out of them. Things like carrots made into perches, apples made into food dishes and filled with their regular food. hang wet green from the tops of the cage. Other methods would be to have your bird join you for meals...monkey see monkey do. Play with sizes shapes and temps of food. for instance Eve will only eat broccoli if it is steamed. And he like his food diced, not in large chunks.

Ollie is very picky as well. I have a much easier time getting her to eat fruits. She loves, loves, loves apple. I've tried putting a little peanut butter on it for her, but she hates anything that sticks to her beak.

Things she almost always likes: pomegranate (an absolute favorite, but not in season until around Oct-Jan) apple, strawberry, pear, grapes, corn (only on the cob), snap peas, carrots as long as I attach it to her cage somehow, sweet potato (cooked, mashed, and sometimes with a little fresh squeezed orange juice on it)...

Things she sometimes likes and sometimes won't touch: orange, kiwi, egg with shell, kale, mustard greens, parsley, cranberries, squash, broccoli, sprouts, cinnamon...

Can't think of anymore right now, but these are the things that I offer her most often.

And of course some days I couldn't get her to eat any of this stuff if I hid it in a popsicle-she frustrates me often!

I LOVE this idea! Of course Ollie would eat the whole thing and that would be too much apple for one day. I could let her attack it for awhile and then take it away.

Ruby eats it all, but Gipper didn't. He would eat anything I put on one of those metal bird skewers. I would hang it in a place that was hard for him to reach and he would work all morning trying to get to it. Then when he got it I guess he figured he better eat it since he had worked so hard! ha! Regarding broccoli, Ruby just likes the insides of the stems. She loves all peppers, but especially the red ones. The expensive ones! ha! She also LOVES the seedy centers of her peppers!

Thank-you for you suggestions! Bingo loves grapes and bananas, but will hardly ever touch anything else. Emerald will try just about anything, and likes different types of baby food. The cockaties will sometimes eat carrots. I am definitely going to try some of the things everyone suggested. And the apple dish idea is great! We often let Bingo eat with us, but she always seems to want the things she can't have! We are just so cautious about what is okay and what isn't to feed them. Thanks for the help!

well here is a list of what I look for. I did a monster mash once consisting of everything on this list I could find and the results were a HUGE pile of food!!! In and of themselves fruits aren't a big hit here. Mixed in the mas they like. Dried fruits are ok with them too. Oddly enough, peppers seem to be one veggie they don't like much.

Okra
Butternut Squash
Acorn Squash
Zucchini squash
Yellow squash
Kale
Basil
Mustard Greens
Dandelion Greens
chard
Broccoli
Parsley
Cauliflower
Leeks
Water Cress
Celery
Peas
Carrots
Corn
Green Beans
Jicama
Bok Choy
Cabbage
Red Cabbage
Parsnips
Turnips
Schizandra Berries
Cranberries
green grapes
bananas
Sweet potatoes
Ginger Root
Cinnamon
Oregano
Dill
Garlic
RoseMary

Get some Cayenne, in the spice section. Sometimes if you sprinkle a bit of that on veggies, or other fresh foods, it will entice them to eat some of it. It's also super good for them (and us!) Benefits from Cayenne

THATS what I forgot to mention that they seem to like once in awhile, Papa Murphy's pizza peppers. The flakes. Shake it on. lol
