Dominique, check this link out. There may be something there to help.

The Diet for the Feather Plucking Bird

Also, you may want to consider a vest for Lucy.

I'm sorry to hear this, I would look into a vest, that is a good idea, and while I know nobody thinks it is medical, there was a study done with amazons and wheat, and all the plucking amazons were on a wheat diet via pellets and other stuff, and other amazons were on a wheat/gluten free diet. the second wheat and gluten free diet group stopped plucking while the other continued, when the diets switched so did the plucking for the majority of the birds. So it might be worth a shot to eliminate all wheat based foods from her diet. It couldn't hurt.

Dom, the only thing I can suggest is frequent showers and some George's aloe spray to help make the feathers soft and help with the itching. I would also try to eliminate the wheat in the birds diet like advised in the above post.

Good luck........

Dom, lokk into Bach Flower Remedies, too. Specifically the Rescue Remedy they do make it for animals. I have read it used in dogs, horses, cats and ect. When I took reflexology my instructor was using the Rescue Remedy on a dog that was beyond mediclal help. I will look it up for you.

How old is Lucy? She may be reaching maturity, a period of hormone imbalance like a teenager. She may be confused and doesn't understand what she is feeling. I don't remember, did you change the setting of her cage? Also, you might try a small amount of listerine in water in the area that she is plucking. It is likely that she won't like the taste.

That was EXACTLY my first thought too Angie.

Good luck Dom. Just know that if he is recommending Halidol... try a very very very very small dose if any at all. It tends to make zombie birds, but I have seen a few flourish on a nominal dose.

She's 8. Our vet thought she would ever lay/nest again because of the Lupron. However, I come home today and find her chewing up her rope perch. Is this a sing of nesting? And the line of plucked feathers on her chest, that's a sign of nesting too?
