Default Soy Cheese?

I read that soy cheese is good for parrots. I can't find it in my grocery stores. Do you all use it? Where do I find it? Do your birds like it?

Ive never heard of it. But I would imagine you could find it in a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's type place.

Birds are lactose intolerant so I don't give my birds cheese. And I think there are other articles on here somewhere about soy being questionable.

Soy inhibits calcium absorption, and boost estrogen levels, I would not use it. As for cheese in general... processed dairy if fine, milk for most birds is difficult to digest. (eve would gulp it down without issue if I let him) However cheese is not the healthiest food for birds. And some cheese like Mozzarella can become compacted in the crop. Eve gets a tiny piece of cheese, usually American cheese as a special treat, but it is not general part of his diet.

i just avoid all cheese, be it milk, soy, or anything else. birds can't digest dairy very well, and soy is debatable. i'd rather be safe than sorry!

A bird can have yogurt which replaces the good bacteria or hard cheese like cheddar. A bird can't digest all the soft cheeses like mozzarella, feta, etc because the lactose has not being changed. Hard cheese the lactose has been broken down and changed. Not big chunks of it since it contains oils but small treats sometimes is ok.

Soy I would imagine as being too risky in any form since the estrogen content is simply too high for any living creature. Soy in humans causes estrogen induced tumors so I choose not to give soy to my birds. I do realize that a lot of parrot food does contain soy simply because it is a very cheap way to raise protein levels. I choose to only buy soy free mixes.

I am one of those folks that is an opponent of soy... for birds OR humans... but especially the birds. There have been a few threads here about it. I agree with the others, Yogurt and hard cheeses have less milk sugar (lactose) and can be provided in small rations. I feed organic, plain yogurt on occasion.
