Default Sleep Cage Question

Am I doing the right thing?

Pita has a sleep cage upstairs in my bedroom. His big cage is downstairs in the living room, and I decided to get a sleep cage, because I wasn't comfortable having him that far away from me...lol Also his cage is in front of a window, and there is a heat register right underneath. So I put him to bed between 9 & 10, and he knows when I put him in it it's bedtime. He crawls right up to his corner between the Happy Hut & cage, and doesn't make a sound till morning. That way I can do other things downstairs, watch TV, clean up...or come up here to the office and play on the PC without disturbing him. I could tell a difference from the first week he had it. I just think he's getting a longer deeper sleep.

Is it OK, that the cage is in my bedroom...also, I cover it with a small light wool blanket, with the warmer weather is that to hot for him? I have a cieling fan that I keep on all night to circulate air. He has no toys in it, just water & some treats. He's out of his cage all day unless I go out, and when I put him.

I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing for him, and I value all your opinions.

I use sleeping cages for my Cockatoos. They sleep in a back bedroom and put themselves to bed somewhere between 5 and 6pm and wake up about 7am. My U2 INSISTS to be covered with a dark sheet. Anything else and she will WHINE for hours. All the other kids sleep in their big cages in the living room/dining room and I just throw a sheet over them for privacy. They seem no worse for wear, but then I am not a late night person. I am lucky if I can make it until 11pm!

I don't use sleep cages, so I can't comment. It sure sounds like you're doing everything fine though.

Sounds good to me, Gayla. If you're concerned about the blanket being too warm, you could always substitute a dark sheet. That's what I use.

Edit: That's what I use for Quito, Tausi and Chico. For myself, I prefer pastel sheets.

I recently started using a sleep cage for my C-TOO. I get up very early in the am for work and I am gone long hours. The reason I started using it;it is in my bedroom BTW is because I felt guilty locking my baby in when I went to bed early and she had been closed in all day.Plus sleeping onthe couch was not doing anything for my back. So when I am ready for bed she comes in the bedroom with me and gets to "stay out" and sleep with me. She is never covered because she doesn't like it. She waits quietly till breakfast is ready and then I move her into the living room where her big cage is and where she spends the day while I am at work. My teils and keets are covered with a light sheet in the warmer months and a light blanket in winter. Hope this helps. Sounds like you are doing just fine.
