Default RPO vs Spirolina

as I have never asked this question before but have always wanted to know. Those of you experienced with it any way. I use spirolina in the mash I make and a few other things as well. It is in small amounts mostly due to the awful color it makes things if I use too much. lol
Am I way off base in thinking that what the two are used for is real close to the same? Better/prettier plumage and the enzymes and goodies like that?

Jim, from the reading I have done Spirulina is a great nutritive source, especially for its plant protein along with other vitamins and minerals. IMO the RPO is a far better source for Beta Carotenes (Vit. A) and also Vit. E. I do believe the RPO is a also a better source for EFA's but I don't have the numbers in front of me to compare.

This is a page from "Plants in Human Health and Nutrition" where it references the Spirulina and RPO for Vitamin A uptake.

This is one of the current discussions going on at present with regard to breeding birds between the use of Spirolina and RPO. RPO seems to be far the better thing for grey parrots and their feathers. I am using Spirolina for my birds as RPO is very expensive and does not seem to make the remarkable difference for conures as it does for greys.

Angie I had thought RPO would be a reasonable cost for you being that it's made in Africa.

Karen in the quantity needed for breeding makes it an expensive option. It comes from far away in Africa so USA is probably closer by boat than me by road transport.
