Default Reverse Osmosis

We have well water that has a touch of sulfur to it, so I bring in drinking water for the birds and use a shower filter for when they bathe.

I was bringing in city water and Brita filtering that. But I recently read some very good information about water and don't feel all that comfortable about the city water any longer. I have always heard Reverse Osmosis is the best.

What is everyone's opinion on Reverse Osmosis water?

You got that right.
We have tannon and rust in the well water down here.
Our city water is rated the best in the area...thank goodness. I do still filter it though.

I have well water that I run through a reverse osmosis system. I was worried about the iron content in the water more than anything. I bought it primarily for drinking water for the birds but I also use the reverse osmosis water for making coffee, cooking and so forth, so it's a handy thing to have. You need to buy a complete reverse osmosis system that includes the small pressure tank. I bought mine on ebay for around 220...that included the complete system with pressure tank and a case of the filters to last around 7 to 10 years. It was easy to install. Now I wouldn't be without one. Get one, you will never regret it.
As far as the reverse osmosis water itself...clean and pure as it gets, you won't have any problems with it at all.

be aware that RO removes all salts and ions.... that can potentially influence the pH. also, not all the ions in the water are bad....

you could take your RO water to a fish store and have the pH tested to make sure it's fine

I'm kind of thinking now, that it may be better to go with spring water??

You're right, reverse osmosis will influence the PH of the water, most definitely. It will also remove all the minerals and nutrients from it also. The minerals and nutrients will not be missed as the birds pick them back up in the food they eat. As for the PH drop, that won't harm them either to my knowledge. There's a lot of folks out there using RO water and they along with me have been doing so for many years without any problems. My water here is hard water with a PH of 9.0 and the reverse osmosis drops it down to 6.0. A PH drop like that is a no no if you're keeping certain types of fish in an aquarium but it won't hurt your birds or you.
