Default Question, how many of your birds are....

DUNKERS? I don't know about you, but our dunkers keep me busy dumping and cleaning their water bowls. Fortunately not all of them are do that. Wonder how many of you have dunkers?

Doc and Daisy are both dunkers. I'm on constant water patroll. I tried the water bottle but Doc decided that it was big fun to push the ball up with his beak and watch it empty everywhere! Silly bird!

Charming and Cinderella have to be the most determined dunkers ever. The water is 2.5m flight away from the food and they still manage to dunk the most. Peanut and company drunk and remove like a soak and serve but it is only the crumbs that fall in. They other are only beak washing. Tinki and Spikey never ever dirty the water it looks clean 24 hours later. Banjo likes to float veggies but mostly removes again.

ahhh my birds would love to be dunkers, but they aint. I have water bottles. I have taught Manau and Peggy and am about to teach Pi to drink from the bottle. Problem solved.
Yup I just re read, the constant pusher in of the bottle nozzle. Peggy did that for a while, but gave up once she was distracted with another toy or food. She soon realized that water was not a toy. When she was thirsty and the bottle was empty overnight, when refilled it wasn't a toy anymore, she was friggin thristy.
Parrots aint stupid. They can talk, they know, really they do. It's only a toy till they realize it is empty for a while. Try it out. I did.

Hmmmm, let's see...

Harley dunks mainly because he's missing all his front toes on his left foot.

MaiTai & Moki love to dunk, especially cookies, plain donuts, toys!

Whooppee dunks her mac nut shells

I think that's it.

Quito and Tausi dunk. Sometimes they recover what they dunk, sometimes not. Quito particularly likes to bathe in her water bowl, usually right after you change it. Chico never dunks food, but will occasionally decide to shred some pieces off from his Lilac perch, and then he'll carefully put them in his water bowl. Whats up with that?

A reminder about water bottles: They're fantastic, but remember to watch them carefully. Some birds will go a step further than pushing the ball in, and actually shove food into the nozzle, plugging it up. There have been cases of dehydration resulting. Shouldn't be a problem, because they should be cleaned and refilled daily, but still.
