#1 | | | Peggy no feathers? Quite often I will receive a private message asking me about Peggy's lack of feathers. I have just received another this morning.
I thought I would post this then if the question arises again I can just direct to here instead of retyping each time.
First of all, don't feel awkward about asking me what is wrong with Peggy. I welcome the interest, and am too happy to tell you why she has no feathers and her little jumper on.
Peggy is suffering from PBFD, short for Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease. Her feathers have been the worst affected by the disease. I rescued her in March '07. At that time I thought she may survive appx. 3-4 months. But here we are in July '08 and she is as healthy as any other Too, she is just minus feathers.
She needs her jumper for without it, she would chill, catch something nasty like pneumonia and certainly die.
She has appx. 4 jumper changes per year, coinciding with the seasons. I make them out of socks. Depending on the weather, the thickness of the sock.
She is really good having them put on, took her a few changes to get the hang of something going over her head, now she will put her head into the neck and actually lift her wings to be placed in the wing holes.
If you want to know more about the disease, go to the link in my signature and you will find information in great detail.
Thankyou to all those that have Private Messaged me enquiring about Peggy. |

No Probs Lori.
The loss of Manau broke my heart. Hardest time I have had over the loss of a pet in my life. I vowed I wouldn't take on another PBFD case. But now I have another two.
Never feel awkward, that goes to all others that have asked me about her. You have all said the same thing in P.M.s.
The link to this thread is in my signature. Makes it too easy aye. |

I love what you have done to manipulate the pic Susan. I am grateful, I didn't even win a comp. or anything.
I am soooo happy that you can see the beauty beyond. My PBFD birds can look ugly and weird without feathers. I don't notice it myself, but visitors to my home have gasped at the sight. Peg's, Pi and I are lucky to have people like all of you around us. |
