Default PBFD What to look for / What to do

Here are a couple of good links to PBFD. Please read and pass the information along. If you think your bird might have the disease take it to an avian vet for testing, not back to your bird store where it could infect others. If you have more than one bird in your home, quarantine your sick bird. All sick birds should be tested by an avian vet! If you need further assistance we are here to answer question or direct you to someone that can.

As far as I understand, there is no "timeline". It must be physically removed from the environment. It is in "dust" so can travel into tiny nooks and crannies.

My vet had me wash everything, and I used Ozone gas. It will live in the environment without a host.

Yep, it can live in a/c ducts, all the ventilation system. It can stay in the dust and still be transmitted, many years down the line. It all has to be removed.

An ozone machine makes it. It is toxic to all living things. Even people. You can't stay in an area with Ozone, while it is present in the air all the time, the machine produces it in much higher than safe quantities.

It can kill all living things, bacteria/virus/etc.

How interesting. I never really thought about it, but that would be an effective was to cleanse a large area. Thanks for the info Dayna!!!

And the gas turns into breathable air (dissipates) rather quickly too! So it seems to be pretty safe.
