Default Odd question

On an other board there is this person who is having an issue with his quaker, he quaker keeps getting really oily, to the point that it looks like the bird has been dipped in oil! He swears the bird is not getting into anything and there is no vomiting or smell associated with the bird. His head however is completely fine looking. And it is not water from a bath, he has to bath the bird to remove what ever it is on the bird. He has been told to seek a avian vet, I also suggested to keep the bird in the cage after he is cleaned up for a few days to see if the bird is actually getting into something around the house or not. Has anybody ever heard or seen something like this?

Default Re: Odd question

At a guess I would think the birdie found some "decorative body lotion". I have had birds with bits of seed stored in feathers. Someone else here has a conure feeding his wing. I am convinced my birds carry shavings underwings so I think this quaker is somehow decorating himself. I would imagine if this was a feather abnormality it would affect the head and pants also. It he was finding something to bath in once again the head and pants would be oiled. Short of going to the vet to see if this may be a preen gland problem, best idea by far would be to cage the birdie for a few days.
