Default Nectar in a caiques diet

Anyone here have any info pertaining to supplimenting a caiques diet with nectar? I have read that Sally Blanchard suppliments her caique, Spike, diet with Lori-life nectar. I have heard through word-of-mouth other caique/owners breeders do the same. There is a small amount of info regarding nectar and caiques on www.caiquesite.com but the other basically refers to him feeding his flock nectar in the forms of fruit juice and ginger ale on a daily basis, in supplimentation with flowers.

I was going to put a blurb about the benefits of adding nectar to your birds diet on the website, but cannot find any concerte information as to wether yay or nay? Anyone have thoughts?

i have never done it with mine, but did read that they eat nectar in the wild. I imagine a bit of it, along with the rest of their diet (in my house, that would be pellets, nuts, fruits and veggies) would be fine! Oh, but can you see the mess?????

Let us know how it goes at your end... after which I'll decide if I want to move the cage THAT far away from the walls, furiiture, etc., etc.!!!

Edited to add:

I just found this:

I am frequently asked if caiques need nectar in their diet.

In my opinion, nectar is not required and caution should be used in its use. In warm climates, nectar can become a medium for a number of bacteria’s. If one is inclined to feed nectar, using one of the dry nectar formulas available on the market would be recommended.

and this:

The best diet for a caique would be pellets and lots of fresh fruits - a must for this bird -and vegetables which will not be eaten with much enthusiasm. They also love walnuts, and can also be offered nectar

I tried it with Scooter when she was little, she hated it. We've not tried it again. It made the poop horrible as well.

On a email list I belong to for caiques, several give their caiques nectar with no ill effects, some daily others weekly and monthly. The Caique Site has indicated that it is healthy for them as they eat nectar in the wild (explains the long beak) and that he mixes it with some gingerale and give it as a treat.
