Yes, of course they do, it's all that protein... usually 20% or more.

More people are even increasingly aware of birds' intelligence. One of my sons came home much amused - someone had called his friend a bird brain and she said, 'Thank you!'
Good for her!

Bea, would you elaborate on this please? Why would they like a higher protein item?

All birds like high protein! From birds of prey to insectivores to seed eaters to fructivores... all of them! Nature gave them a hankering for it because they need it to breed (and nature is all about the continuation of the species) and it's not found that easily in high concentrations in the wild. Parrots are vegetarians (fruits, nuts, plant material, etc) and vegetables don't have that much protein in them, only legumes and nuts do, but most legumes are cultivars and nuts are not that very plentiful all the time so, whenever they find high protein, they go for it like crazy! People talk about psittacines been opportunistic feeders and having been observed eating meat in the wild and it is absolutely true that this is so but the chances of a parrot finding a very fresh kill (meat spoils fast in warm conditions) that is safe to eat (no predators around) are slim at best and, most likely, there are birds that never, ever get a taste of meat in their entire lives and, the ones that do, don't get it more than twice in a lifetime. So, although they are capable and very willing to consume a lot of protein, one needs to be careful because high protein destroys their liver as it wasn't made for processing it all the time.
