Another good fruit is papaya. I cheat with that though and buy it already cut up.
Papaya is super easy to cut up and they can even have the seeds. I have given up on Mango. All I end up with is a mangled mango mess! I only buy that pre-cut now if it looks good.

Thanks Karen, those pictures were really helpful.

I'll get a papaya next time I'm at the store.

I also cut it like that, with two long cuts on either side of the pit but I find it easier to do it with the mango 'standing up' so I cut down instead of sideways. I use the narrow 'strip' I get from around the pit for the canaries and give the pit with the thin layer of flesh still sticking to it to Teddy (male YC). He loves getting the big thing all for himself -LOL

I also don't peel it, just wash it and dry it very carefully. Mangos and papayas are two of the few fruits that are safe to buy not organic so I use them a lot and all my birds love them. Only they have to be perfectly ripe. Other 'safe' fruit are fresh pineaple, raspberries, blueberries, bananas, watermelon.

Papaya can be cut in rounds with the skin still on. I start at the thin end. It is easy to peel the circle slice. Mango can be cut the same way up to the pip although it is difficult to make the piece you cut separate from the pip, mostly have to cut the squares while still attached to the pip. Both last better with the peel still on.

Mine LOVE mango's cold from the fridge. They dont care too much for papaya's. They also love frozen berry's. We keep frozen ones during the winter until the fresh ones come into season. They love them frozen!.

Kady has been on a Mango kick for about 3 weeks. I've been doing much better selecting and cutting them up. I think I was selecting ones that weren't quite ripe enough before and that's why I couldn't get them cut up without mangling them.

Ollie didn't like the mango I got a few weeks ago, but I'm going to try again and see if I can get a more ripe one.
