It's good that you like your vet and if he/she is good with Ivy all the better. My vet is not AV certified either, almost impossible around my part of the woods. I was just talking about the customer service aspect of it all.....
I didn't mean to make it sound like the vet wasn't a good vet.
Sorry if that came across wrong. |

Nothing for lunch (birds don't do lunch, they usually rest or nap between noon and 2 pm when they start getting more active again) and the higher protein food for dinner.
Birds are not supposed to get pickier the longer we have them, quite the contrary, they are supposed to eat a larger variety of foods and be more pre-disposed to trying new things. | i feed her when i get up on the morning and also in the evening around 6. i do usually do one fruit and one veggie, and then she gets her mac nuts too. the only time she gets "lunch" is when she doesn't eat her breakfast (seems to be more often lately).
i guess she doesn't get "pickier" but she does go through phases. she used to be all about banana and now she won't touch it. she seems to be just a fussy eater in general. i always hear about how every bird LOVES bird bread and she will have nothing to do without, outside of playing with it. she is also offended by greens. she will squish green beans in her beak, but i've yet to get her to eat anything green.
i just keep trying! |

Don't lose hope, birds go through phases when it comes to their likes and dislikes but they eventually settle down to a variety of foods... some stuff is kind of like an acquired taste for them, I guess. And it takes a long, long time for them to start eating greens. I have some fairly new ones that still don't touch them.
But, still, don't give her lunch and don't give her nuts right after the healthy stuff or she won't eat it anticipating the nuts. Save them for dinner and just leave a cooked grain dish (or birdy bread), veggie, fruit and green out for her to eat. When she is hungry enough, she will eat them. Don't feel sorry for hers, she is not sick or emaciated and no animal commits suicide by starvation. When it comes to birds and their diets, you need to apply the 'tough love' principle. |
