thanks for the suggestions, guys. she's been SUPER picky about eating lately, but i will see if i can try some of these things. i don't want her to be super-prone to sickness all her life.

Glad you finally got those results, Emily. I know how nerve wracking it is to have to wait like that!

What is benebac? I have never heard of it.

Benbac is a probiotic that helps with digestion - it is better than yogurt for birds. A product description from Bene-Bac Powder Formula for Birds & Reptiles - Digestive Aids states:
Quote:
Concentrated live culture of 5 common bacteria. Has 25 million colony forming units (CFU) per gm of viable lactic acid producing bacteria. For birds and reptiles under adverse conditions such as showing, breeding, weaning, traveling, therapy, boarding & intestinal stress.
But Emily, I don't want to be negative, but it does bother me that your vet did not stay in touch for the more than two weeks you waited for those test results. When I bring my bird in to the vet, and there are tests done, my vet calls me every time results trickle in... and he'll say, "Such and such came in, it was negative, which means, etc. and the other tests are supposed to be in by etc." so I get a running commentary while I wait for the results. So I don't think you were treated in as professional a manner as you should have been. Just my two cents.

I couldn't agree more. When we had to take Harley in last month we got called EVERY time a new test came back, plus we got at least 2 or 3 calls just asking how he was doing. There was tons of follow up. Seems odd to me that the vet would not have stayed in touch too.

believe me, i am not happy about it. but i don't have a certified avian vet in the area. hardly any vets that will see macaws, that i know of. i REALLY like this vet too, even if he wasn't good about keeping in touch. he is really good with ivy and really knowledgeable and patient, always taking as much time as i needed, never feeling rushed.

Well I understand Emily, but just had to get it off my chest, as believe it or not it's been kind of stewing for days! LOL Funny how we get involved in each other's birds, or at least I do, get emotionally involved, waiting for Ivy's test results and fretting over your treatment!
