Exclamation Help me

I just got my macaw parrot 2 months ago and lately she has been losing feathes, not rapidly. The white around her beak has turned a very light pink color and she is tempermental. Should I be worried?

well, if it is a health issue you are worried about, get her to a vet ASAP.

in the meantime, if you can give us some more information, maybe we can try to shed some light?

How old is she? are you her first home? is she a DNA'd female? what kind of macaw is she? did anything change in your house or her enviroment about the time she started acting differently? do you have other birds in the house?

as josh said, i would get her to a vet ASAP. minor changes in appearance or behavior can mean big problems. better to be safe than sorry.

how old is your macaw? she might be going through a molt (mine sure are right now!). also, it could be related to hormones depending on how old she is.

Sorry, I'm not good at this. She is around two years old. She has had one previous owner. I'm not sure what a DNA'd female is. She is a blue gold macaw. The only thing I can think of that might have change around then is her food and no I don't have any other birds.

ok, calm down. First, it moulting time. All of our birds are losing feathers right now. Temperament goes with that. They are all hormonal in spring. Look at the feather quality. You want to make sure the shaft or quill is clear and hollow. If it is black, deep yellow or still full of blood thats what you want to look for. Aee the feathers mutilated in any way?

DO you have any wood in her cage that is dyed red or purple? This would cause the beak to have a color.

Can you give us pics??

For some reason I can't get the pics to download. The quill is clear and hollow. There is dyed wood in her cage but its not her beak that is pink it is the white skin around her beak that is a little pinkish.

the pink on her skin might be from the dye of the wood....Lord knows i've turned my fingers blue, green purple by picking up the wood with wet hands.

She may be blushing. They do that on the fleshy cheek pads under the eye when they are excited. The feathers sound fine though. Does it look like she is plucking any extras or are they just falling out along with down? Any bald patches?

Your pics may need to be cropped to fit. Are you getting a message when you try to load them?

I really do think your having new mommy jitters though, so stay with us here!

Thank you so much everyone for the advice. I feel much better about the situation. We didn't know much about her when we got her except she needed a good home.

My B&G's skin turns pink when he's upset or really excited.
