Thank you for opening your heart and home to your new friend, you shine.
As other members have said, these birds blush, our Mac blushes and his whole face turns a pinkish color.
Lets review what others have said.
The feather quills were mentioned, you checked these and all seems fine, good job.
Blushing was mentioned, this could very well be the issue.
You mentioned the birds diet, I am assuming you were not told what the bird was being fed in the past and now are feeding your friend a Macaw seed mix.
Offer fresh fruits, Clean water daily, There is much information posted here on Parrot Chatter concerning the macaws diet, Please, if you have the time, cruise the forum and catch up on some reading, more than likely you will find answers to most of your questions, there's a generous amount of information in the Stickies located at the top of the Macaw forum, this information can be a very valuable tool for your future need.
If possible, set up an appointment with a avian vet, your friend will need a complete exam, this protects the bird and you (big time).
Read my friend, and then do some more reading, I can't express this enough.
I have not enough words to thank you for giving this bird a loving home, I admire you a great deal, I admire the concern you have for your new family member.
A sincere Thank You to our members for responding.
