Default Experience with Splay Leg

I am looking for advice from anyone that has had any experience with Splay Leg in a baby bird. As you know Rio has some splay leg and I have been working on correcting it.
He/she seems to still have problems if he steps off the towel and on to the counter. The legs go out from under him. He seems to do better when on a towel or something in being able to keep his legs under him and walk, though it is a kind of hesitant walk.

My question is - should I still keep taping the legs right now and is it possible the legs coming out from under could be just due to his age (48 days as of July 13).

Just trying to get some input as to whether I need to do this longer or it is just due to young age and will get better on his feet.

I forgot to mention I have worked with this before, but it has been a while since I have done this on a larger bird than a ringneck so I can't remember exactly how long it took on the larger bird.

Thanks.
