So it appears that the majority of people chose Goldenfeast Golden'Obles based on the ingredients. If the ingredients are so spectacular, then why isn't in advertised or pushed more by vets/breeders/experts/bird enthusiasts? I'll admit, I had never even heard of this brand until Jim started talking about giving it to his fids.

Is it because many birds don't like it and its too difficult to get them to eat it? I know that Jim has had success with it- has anybody else tried it?

Camille, I am now feeding a variety of pellets here and Golden'Obles and Harrison's are the preferred choices by my two. In 3rd. place are the Natural Zupreem Pellets. I don't know why some lines have an 'in' with Vets and some don't. At my Vet they have Harrison's and Roudybush and my Vet prefers Harrison's. The GF Goldn'obles are expensive, running about $29.00/35.00 for a 7lb. bag, so that may be why they are not commonly fed.

I searched online and the first place I found sells 20 oz of Golden'Obles for 8.75. I buy a 2 pound bag of zupreem fruity for 13.99. The price difference isn't really that big. Maybe I'll buy some to see what Ollie thinks. Or maybe I should just leave well enough alone...I'm already having a heck of a time getting her to eat fresh foods that are good for her!

Interesting. Does anyone have any thoughts about protein content? I read an article somewhere that mentioned that for CAGs specifically, a protein content of no higher than 15 percent is recommended. Looks like the Golden 'Obles is 19 percent.

Nate, my research into diet has been for my Greenwings. So the only information I have regarding Grey's is what I have read on the Harrison's site, which recommends:

Quote:
Birds who are converting to Harrison's, molting, overweight & underweight, under the age of 6-8 months or recovering from an illness should start out and remain on the High Potencyx formulas for a period of at least 6 months.

Some birds such as African Grey's, GreenWing & Hyacinth Macaw's, Queen of Bavaria Conure's and Palm Cockatoo's should remain on the High Potencyx formulas year round.

Guaranteed Analysis: Crude protein (min.) 18%, crude fat (min.) 15%
So going by what I am reading here, which recommends an 18% protein, the Goldn'Obles at 19% is within reason in my estimation.

I like the Goldn'Obles because it gets all its values from actual food.

I wish they offered small or trial size bags of pellets. It kills me to spend $8 or $10 a bag then shipping and have them not even touch it. I think Beak Appetite is smart when offering "trial sizes".
My vet only once gave me a trial size of Harrisons but she is okay with me feeding Merlin (CAG) Zupreem fruit maintenance. I tried Organic pellets, I think it may have been Zupreem and Merlin always left those in his bowl even when I mixed them with his fruity ones. Maybe for him it's just color 'cause some days he only eats one color.

Sally, you may want to contact the company directly and ask them to send you a sample. You never know, they might just do it.
