Default Does anyone have this book?

The Healthy Bird Cookbook: A Lifesaving Nutritional Guide and Recipe Collection (Hardcover)
by Robin Deutsch

I was looking a bit at it and thought it may be a good thing to have as a guide for cooking, mine pretty much get the same cooked foods I need more ideas.

*waves hand*

I do, I do!
Highly recommend it... very good, nutritional, and fun recipes! The first chapter is all on nutrition, then the rest of the book is recipes. Breads, cooked foods, even make your own seed mixes. I love it and drag it out on weekends when I do mass cooking for the flock.

Emily, thanks for the review. Sounds like it's a book I'd like to have here!

Me too!!

P.S. The reason Karen's post shows I edited it was because I mistakenly hit the "edit" button rather than the "quote" button and inserted my reply. Had to edit to delete my reply from her post -- sheesh, someday I'll get a grip on all these darn buttons!!

I was thinking about getting it... but the reviews on Amazon aren't that great.

I just read some of them aswell.
Interesting. I agree- there are some recipes I would not use- there is one that is prepring a premade macaroni and cheese mix and adding millet to it.
But people also have to keep in mind that this book is what... 3 or 4 years old? Avian nutrition has come along way in a short time. And what works for one person does not work for another.
Some people who reviewed took issue with using a premade pancake mix. I never thought twice about details like that simply because I never use premade mixes- too much sugar. If it says to use a premade Jiffy mix for birdie bread, I subsitute ground cornmeal instead.
I still think its something useful to have on hand for new ideas and recipes. Even if you have heard or made the recipe before, it always offers variations. Thats what I like.

Wendy, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that book!! I bought it in September of 06 at my local Petco. Yeah, there are a couple of things I wouldn't use for Buster and I make cornbread, biscuits, etc. from scratch (don't even get me started about cornbread and that Jiffy mix stuff!) rather than a mix because of the added sugars and preservatives, but other than that I think it is a great resource. I've made three different grain/veggie/bean mixes for Buster and four different breads and she has loved everyone of them. FYI, Buster is a 3 to 5 year old hen cockatiel.
