Default Cooking with Pellets

I am trying desperatly to get Echo to TRY her Harrison's pellets. I have put coconut oil on them, mixed them with seed, left them in there with only water all day and in the afternoon only giver her everything else- she will not eat them. But then, a glimpse of hope! I made a corn meal miffin thing off of LOV and mixed pellets and some veggies with it and I return to find--- she ate it! She ate the whole thing, including the pellets that have been mixed in with it! I'm going to try cooking them in with other things as well, gradually adding them later to make the crunchier and then weaning her onto them alone. No matter how long it takes--- we are going to ge the hang of this pellet thing! Just thought I'd share the good news!

Dom - I have several birds who totally refuse Harrisons, but my Goffins totally refuses everything else. I feed Mazuri to the majority of the birds and Zupreem to the two conures and Miss Sheela gets her Harrisons.
I know when I was trying to get my birds off seed and onto pellets, I started with LaFebers - they like them, they have molasses in them. Once I got them onto LaFebers then I started introducing other pellets into the mix - started with Roudybush (which they all refuse to eat now, but ate regularily in the past) and then over to Mazuri. I think it is like people, some will like it and eat it, and others will hate it and never eat it. Try diff kinds.

Have you tried eating 1 in front of her and pretending like it's the best thing you've ever tasted? That's how I got Kirby to eat his pellets. He wouldn't touch them no matter what else I tried. So one night we were sitting on the couch together and I got one out, showed it to him, ate it and told him how delicious I thought it was! (it was really kind of gross - but not so horrible that I couldn't fake it.) He came over and tilted his head to the side and said "what?" I handed him one, he looked at it then at me, then took it and ate it. Now he eats some of his pellets every day. Another thing most of the fids here will try - is pellets mashed up with enough hot water to make an oatmeal like consistency, with some cinnamon and a little bit of baby food fruit stirred in.

I have a longtime habit of holding treats in my hand for my cockatiels to eat. The birds mostly ignore pellets if I put them in a bowl, but the pellets magically turn into a very desirable treat if I hold them in my hand. Sometimes the tiels even fight over them.

Yes, you are right, often if they see you eating it, they will eat it, and if the "oatmeal" is warm, they will really like it

Sometimes it just takes persistence and them seeing the pellet everyday before they will try it. Keep working on her and eventually she may eat it.
