I think that I'd ask her to call the lab and ask where the results are. I'd also tell her....I'll call you back in an hour.

A fungal culture normally takes a week unless it's a mycoplasma PCR which can take up to ten days, depending on the lab. Why don't you ask them the name of the lab they use and call them directly to find out what the status is? That's what I would do if I was really worried although I don't think that Ivy's problem is that urgent but, what the heck! She is your baby and you are worried so...

Emily

I do not want to be a downer here but may I ask where Artemis is in relationship to Ivy? Cockateils as well as greys and cockatoos are "dust" producing birdies and this could be one source of irritation to Ivy.

I unfortunately speak from experience. My GW Ru had the same problem several years ago. He developed a runny nose and "sinus infection". In addition to that after a few months he began to pluck. After all kinds of tests to the tune of $700 all tests were normal. I said it seemed as if he was "allergic" to something. I had him on Benadryl for awhile and then it dawned on me. We had a Cockatoo and even though it took 4 years, nd we had been running filters, and they were in separate parts of the room I felt Sophie was making Ru and even my B&G Maxie sick.

We decided to rehome Sophie and after a few months Ru & Max returned to normal. Ru will still develop some nasal (clear) discharge at certain times but he is much better.

Maybe you will need to keep the birdies in separate rooms. See if that makes a difference. I do believe it is a cumulative effect. Also the irritation from Artemis' dust can make Ivy more susceptible to sinus infections.

I hope Ivy gets better soon. Good luck.

thanks for sharing you experiences, i appreciate that a lot. cockatiel dust actually had crossed my mind. we do keep them in separate rooms though, as ivy sorta torments artemis. at least, he sees it that way. do you think she could be that sensitive that it would bother her even from another room? we do have an air purifier, maybe we should invest in a few more.

Has Ivy shown any sinus problems and runny nares since you took the photo and brought her to the vet and she has been on Baytril?

Then most likely it's not cockatiel dust. BG macaws are supposed to be the most susceptible- I have a too and 3 macaws, but they live in separate areas of the house and are fine. But that is a good hypothesis, and if all tests come back OK, something to ask your vet about.

Emily, every day I check to see if Ivy's test results are in? You have still heard nothing? Because it's been over two weeks now.

i called on monday and was told the results were in, but the doctor wasn't. she took my number and said the doc would call me on tuesday (yesterday). the day went by and no call. guess i am calling again today.

i was told it was "normal" for cultures to take OVER two weeks.
