Did they tell you why the results are not in? Because, the most I've had to wait have been five calendar days and that was because the samples were been sent to the University of Pennsylvania's lab.

well, i just called again and was basically told the same thing...that cultures just take a long time. i don't know why the doc would tell me 72 hours though.

i hope giving her baytril in the meantime isn't bad for her if she doesn't have an infection.

No, the Baytril will be fine. It's just, I am not sure they are straight talking you. Perhaps they have to do the lab work out of state or something? Kind of weird.

Id get a manager on the phone and tell them "ILL HOLD!" Not only did you pay your money for this, but this is a fragile life waiting. I dont get people who work to serve the public anymore. No one wants to take the extra mile to do the right thing for the customer. And on top of if they're rude just because you love your baby and want answers. Its not like you just had it done yesterday!

I am with Leigh on this one, and really don't understand the delay. Personally I would call the vet and say "You said 72 hours and they are telling me 2 weeks. What's up?" If there was something seriously wrong with Ivy, she'd be dead by the time the results are in. Thankfully, it's not the case, but really! I don't know prices in Florida, but I cannot walk into a vet clinic with a bird without dropping a minimum of $250, and with lab tests, I'd say a lot more! Bypass the clinic and call your vet. S(he) owes it to you. I'm all for being nice, but some idiots in this world view it as a weakness and that's when you have to get tough. (Can you sense my blood heating up here?)

When my Gipper was so sick I took him to the fancy animal emergency hospital here in Houston and they had a whole department just for birds. They were wonderful and did all kinds of testing on him and I stayed in the waiting room for 2 whole days solid and they found out all the results within a few hours. Maybe it was because they knew I wasn't leaving. I just don't know why it is taking so long with Ivy. Need Ruby to fly up and help?
