After losing my last dog to old age 5 years ago, it was time for me to revisit getting another pet/buddy. Growing up with dogs, cats, horses, birds, ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters (yes, I've had them all), I decided to go back to birds.

What drew me back in was their intelligence, curiosity, their humor, and their willingness to communicate with us. I'm proud to be owned by my amazon as he has become exactly what I hoped for. Besides, how could I have resisted that face?

I wish I had known about birds years ago, but no one that I knew ever had birds. It was a whole new world to me and now I can't imagine life without birds!

I've been obsessed with their beauty, intelligence, and loyalty for literally as long as I can remember.

Every project, every research paper, every chance I got. I studied. I took in unwanteds, I rescued, I rehabbed.....

They fascinate me, pure and simple. ALWAYS have, always will. My beautiful, intelligent, and loving pets never cease to amaze me.

When I was young I kind of took birds for granted. I knew a few kinds. I had a great relationship for a summer with a Malard I raised & a Crow but the relationship ended as I kept them wild.

I think it is because they aren't like us at all & yet they too can tolerate us - fascinated me. Their diversity & beauty is remarkable.

Being around lots of animals as I grew up I have always known they are all intelligent & talented in different areas.
I love dogs, cat, horses - all have a great capacity to take us in as their family & we have a lot in common. I think the bond there has the potential to be more profound. With a bird we are both kind of winging it.

I was totally unprepared for the hilarity of having Budgies in my life. The amount of laughter these 2 little birds have generated - is good medicine. I defy anyone to not laugh with joy or amusement while dealing with a Budgie. I had no idea.

I could watch their natural beauty & grace all day but I have to say I feel that way about other creatures too.

I have always wanted a parrot since i raised that baby jackdaw nearly 30 years ago, i finally got an Alexandrine 6 months ago, he wasnt the pet i was hoping to have, had been abused and not at all tame, i have persevered with him and he is now a happy chappy as long as i dont invade his space, i still cant get near him and have since acquired an african grey who i put a lot more research into before i got her, she is the pet i wanted albeit a lot harder work than i expected, she is a 24/7 pet but she is slowly bringing Billy out of his shell as he sees all the fun she has all day creating carnage round the house, hopefully in the not too distant future they will both be creating carnage together.

Lets see...about a year ago a cockateil caught my eye at the pet store and really looked at me like a little feathered person. It got under my skin, and for some reason I researched parrots. I already had three small dogs and a cat, but felt compelled to investigate. After seeing some small birds at a pet store that didn't seem right, the employee said "Have you thought about a Quaker?" I went online and found a breeder, and fell in love with the little stinkers. This is my first bird since parakeets in childhood. I came home with this tiny little guy who has since changed my life for the better. He has more personality than so many people I know, and is so affectionate and gentle. My neighbors thought I was nuts and now they love him, too. Now he has a big dopey older brother (Ekkie) and the two cuddle together. So sweet. Why have parrots? They are like little feathered souls with a wildness that makes them mysterious, and a willfulness that garners my respect. Love 'em! Not even to mention the talking and communication...!

This is what I am talkin about. Look at the pictures. See your bird turning upside down. Now Peggy and Pi does that. It is an unadulterated love. Birds are waaaay more intelligent than any other pet.

I always said to many a friend and my family, the loss of Manau was far greater than the loss of any pet I have ever had.
It was deep. really deep. The love and companionship is different. That's the only way I can describe it.

This is Manau, she just came up to me and did this. I will never forget her love. Sheesh, now I am crying just looking at the pic. I miss her sooo much. She was my best buddy.

I blame my Parents , it's all their fault. They gave me my first bird. Ever since then, I've always had one or more birds. I love their independence, but their need to have companion type relationship. I love their freedom, and it is true freedom, they eat when, where, and what they want, they come and go when they want, and to soar among the clouds. I must agree that there is no other pet that talks to you as intelligently as Parrots do. They are one of God's most amazing creations! And for that, I adore them!

we wanted a family interactive pet. I went looking for a Cockatiel and found Zoey instead. Birds proved to be the most awesome of companions to me. I just love everything about them.
