A friend of mine found an ill crow and took it to a wildlife rehabber. The crow died the next day and the body was sent to Albany's pathology center. The bird tested positive for west nile virus. The next week in the town next to her an other dead crow tested positive. And in her back yard yet an other crow was found dead. The first 2 crows were reported in the local news. But this marks the first reported west nile bird cases in upstate NY. So be careful about letting your birds out please. Make sure there is no standing water and such laying around

Mine get the WNV vaccine, which is actually an equine vacc. and still has not received final approval for avian use. But my avian vet recommends it when the warnings are high... and the birds at the San Diego zoo have been getting them for years.
