Default Trying to get to my babies!

This is the 3rd times this week. The fids are out on the boings in their room playing, chatting, climbing all over. Alex lets out a shriek and they throw themselves on the floor and come running in to the family room. Alex is frantic saying "step up! step up!!" they all run to me. So I go in the bird room and look out the window. Theres a hawk outside their window! Sitting right there! I think he must see my fids and go at the window! Its a magnificent creature.

Poor birdies, it is good to know they see mommy as safety and not the usual flock instinct of scatter.

Poor babies!

One time Ollie and I were on the road and she was in her travel cage in the front seat. A hawk shot across the road right in front of us after some sort of prey. Ollie dove face first to the bottom of her cage and stayed there for about a minute.

Poor Alex is the most scared of it. He runs like a seagull, with one wing out like a turn signal. I hate to see humor in his anguish, but he looks so silly running like that saying "step up step up!" He still says it even after I pick him up. This hawk isnt very big and looks like a falcon. He's maybe a little bigger than Mr Buddy. Maybe it is a falcon. Seeing him sit there right outside the window was awesome. Sure would like to hold it.

Is it okay if I do? Your description is hilarious!

It's amazing how they know what to be afraid of, even though they've never even lived it before. Instinct is so strong.

Of course they are afraid. All psittaforms, but most especially the larger species, are a couple of generations away from living in their natural habitat and the shape of birds of prey is very distinct and part of their atavistic memories. Poor babies, what a terrible fright they must have had!

Earlier this summer we had several large hawks come by our house too. Harley flipped out (similar to how Alex did, except with more screaming). Echo dove to the corner of the cage and stayed there for a couple minutes. They are amazing creatures, even though they do give the fidians a fright!
