OK, I'm laughing here too! I can just picture that tribe running through the house trying to get to you saying step-up. Poor babies but also funny! I have not yet experienced a a hawk though!

Falcons have brown eyes, that's one way to tell them apart from hawks.

I remember when reading The Parrot who Owns Me, the description of her amazon's reaction to a hawk. It seems pretty universal.

Even the smaller birds of prey are afraid of the larger ones. Many years ago, I had a little kestral. Someone brought over a magnificent golden eagle who had been shot down (not in the U.S., where it's illegal). The golden eagle was in the garden, and when my kestrel saw it, he was so terrified he fell off the perch, poor thing.
