Default Tornado of wheat toast

Last night I was laughing hysterically at my blunder when I was feeding the birds. I was running late with everything because I had Yoga after work so the fids had a very simple snack of whole grain toast with some Avicakes mixed in after they were flying and playing for awhile.

I made the toast and crumbled most of it on a small dinner plate and crumbled some Avicakes. I went in the living room with the plate, sat down on the couch, and they all flew right over. Usually they eat one by one, or the budgies sometimes eat together. Last night, they all wanted to eat together. They're spoiled and usually eat from the plate on my lap too.

Lots of toast crumbs + 3 birds flying over, all hovering for a second til they can land on the plate = crumbs EVERYWHERE I felt like I was in the middle of a sandstorm and it was like the birds were helicopters blowing the sand everywhere

So I had crumbs in my hair, down my shirt, all over my clothes, etc. One would fly away, then another, then I'd shake as many crumbs from my clothing back onto the plate, then some or all would fly back and it began all over. This lasted for a good 20 minutes (I just gave up and sat in the toast storm for the last half), but I laughed my butt off the entire time.

Yes, a video would be great, but I can picture it just fine! Quito's not much larger than a budgie, and it's amazing the amount of wind those little wings can generate! Kind of makes you appreciate what a marvel of design they are.

The video would look like this:

Me sitting on the couch, squished up face and eyes tightly shut, while every 2 minutes you see toast whirling around me absolutely everywhere And you're so right Nate, those tiny wings get moving FAST and they do move quite a bit of air, especially with two or three pairs of wings hovering just inches from one another!!

After the birds were away for the night the dog had a fabulous time cleaning up the floor and couch

Somehow a video coming any time soon is not a reality! - bet you're trying not to do that again!

That is pretty funny from over here at any rate.

I've had some similar moments recently.
I've introduced Flat Breads to my guys.
I clip it [now] to the top of the cage. This is a whole flax seed in whole grain flat bread.
They don't seem to eat it - rather, they fight over it & love to chew small pieces off it. Mostly it is tidily piled in the center of the whole thing - but if they take off = Sarah's situation. If it isn't clipped to the top of the cage whole pieces are tossed in every direction + all the small bits fly too.
