Default For those of you that live in apartments...

How do you handle it when they have to do construction that involves dry wall/plaster dust and paint?

I am a NERVOUS WRECK today because they construction guys are coming in our apartment to do some patch work on some spots.

What do you do about it? There is no way I can move around Jazzy's cage, plus...I have no where to take her!

I hope she's okay...

I would keep Jazzy in the bathroom on a gym, rather not take the risk.

How about when they come spray for bugs?? I have nowhere to take Ollie either. She just stays in my bedroom, I open all the windows even if its freezing out, and I watch them and make sure they don't go in my room. They usually only spray the kitchen anways.

Not to worry you even more, but just think about stuff that goes on in your neighbors apartments! All the ducts and vents are connected. Its almost certain that most people are using teflon, aerosols, possibly smoking, etc. All you can do is just not think about it because it will worry you to death. Ollie has lived in my apartment all her life- no problems.

About this work, I would just try to seclude her as much as possible. Can you put her in a bedroom, or even a bathroom??

i'd honestly take valo with me, if they would do work.... travel cage and off to the office... too bad for my office mates - they'd have to deal with him....

but if that's not possible, i'd definitley get him into another room.... even if it's just construction work - the dust is fine and gets EVERYWHERE....

They're doing construction around all of the windows, so no room is safe but our bathroom.

Well they started today. I left a note on the bedroom door that stated: "Please do not do any painting or create any dust in this room unless stated it will definitely take place on the specific day so I may relocate my bird. Dust and paint fumes will harm or kill her. Please do not touch bird." but the problem is that most of those construction workers are mexican and don't speak English I think it is policy, however, that if no one is home in the apartment, the maintenence supervisor has to be present. I happen to be friends with him and he knows Jasmine, however...you know that rules are bent sometimes. I am just worried they will come in with out my maintenence super friend and ignore my note! Our own bathroom is centrally located in the apartment, I could put her in there but there on her play tree...that's a good point...

I'm going to DREAD going home....ughhh

I never thought about when they spray for bugs....I have no idea! I think they just spray around the outside of the building and only inside if there is a complaint. I could be wrong though! I take care of the bugs on my own with covered dry poision bait traps because I don't want them coming in and spraying. my friend lost his pet Iguana that way I'm going to have to double check with the office.

Okay.................. I wasn't aware that all the apartment air ducts are connected! EW! How is that sanitary?! That does worry me, but...then again I'd worry about not worrying if I wasn't worrying!!

yeah my guys got it really bad........................ they live with the guy who does that work!!! Working in an occupied apartment means taking alot of precautions. How old is the building you live in? The workers should be using moister to keep the dust down so they can limit what they have to clean when done.
To make sure as best I could I would hang "drapes floor to ceiling around the cage. That way it doesn't seem like being covered up but will limit air flow around Jasmine.

the apartment air ducts better not be connected!! I have never worked in an apartment that was true. Although it is believed by many who live in apartments. It is true tho that apartments usually are not air tight from each other. Unless you know somebody like me who makes it that way. Each exhaust vent leading out of the apartment goes out of the building on its own. Caulking is wonderful stuff!!!

Yikes, I've never had this problem!

Closest I've come was them remodeling the apartment below mine, and I just made sure to keep the windows closed, especially with their asbestos warnings

I would probably try to take Schroeder with me and go somewhere else, or stay with a friend - but then again I HATE construction and I'm not sure I could live there while they were doing work.
