Default Stupid Bee / Me... Lucky Bee / Me

Yesterday, I spent half the day at home writing on my paper before heading out to the lab to get some stuff done there and talk to my advisor since he's in town for 2 days. Valo and I had a splendid morning - Mr. Stinkefuss was cute as always. Shortly before leaving I had a peach since I was starving, and I decided to share with my feathered little guy - and since I was sitting on the chair next to the cage I opened the feeder door to take him out. Before I left, I put Mr. Stinkefuss back into his cage.... do you already know where this is going?

I did all my stuff in the lab, talked to my advisor for about 2hrs (scheduled the time-line... seems like my dad can book his flight to come for graduation in Dec this year ), and then headed off to have dinner with friends.... on the way to the restaurant, it HIT me - HEARTATTACK !!! I have no idea, how I remembered but I did - I didn't close Valo's feeder door when I left the house 5(!) hours ago. Needless to say, I dropped my friends off at the restaurant and raced back to my house - lucky me, no cops were around because I'd have gotten a speeding ticket for sure. Run home, and as I walk in my little feathered love was sitting in his cage begging me to come out - with the feeder door WIDE OPEN.
It seems he never left the cage - I guess he doesn't associate the feeder door with an exit (I took him out this way the second time since I got the cage), and didn't bother exploring. Lucky, lucky me....

So, why am I posting this? No, I don't need feed-back that I was being stupid ... I rather meant this to serve as a reminder to all of us to CHECK THE CAGES BEFORE WALKING OUT OF THE HOUSE. (I'm usually really careful about this, and it still happened. And with Valo being flighted and the brat that he is, I can only imagine what he could've gotten himself into)

Seems things don't work quite that way at Casa Amazona. I'm so glad your fid was right where you left him. Every morning I remove Rico & Rosita's water bowl and leave the feeding door ajar while I get them a clean bowl with fresh water. Never once has Rico ever done anything but wait patiently. This morning he was in hormone overload. When I got back I found him clinging to the outside of the cage in absolute, all-out, full male Amazon display. Oh, goody! I've been away from the office for a week and am on a really tight time schedule to get there on time this morning. The last time he came out in this hormonal condition, it was several hours before I could corral himself and get him back in his cage. I waited for him to climb down onto the very slippery dresser surface, then pretty much scooped him to the edge, where he had a choice of dropping onto the carpeting or climbing aboard the handheld perch. He opted for the perch, and I almost got to work on time, but for a last-minute phone call.

Lucky Bee!!!! Good Birdie! How was dinner, did you go back?

Lucky Dana... I didn't attach the secondary chain on Tiki's feeder door this weekend when I pulled her dish out. She can open the primary latch, the flap, in about 2 seconds flat; so I estimate she was terrorizing the finches by being Tiki-zilla on their cage for about 5 minutes while I was washing and filling bowls. The finches are fine :-} She looks at me when I walk in and loudly says "Good Girl!!!" as she offers her foot for up up ;-} Little stinker knows if she steps up she's a good girl and maybe won't get reprimanded for being a bad girl and letting herself out. I'm kinda glad she does, because I have a hard time reaching the top of the "empire finch building" hahahaha.

LOL! Yeah, you were lucky for sure. A good reminder for all of us, especially folks like me with an absent-minded streak. Twice I've done that with Quito's feed or water door. So far every time I've done it, she's landed on my shoulder before I've gotten 10 feet away from her cage! It gave me quite a start the first time. The other time it happened I just started chattering away to her like nothing was out of the ordinary.....then suddenly realized "Hey, what are you doing here??" What a dunce!

I'm so glad Valo is alright. I told you so!

You're not stupid......with all you have going on it happens. And it turned out OK. Like I said, he probably didn't even realize it was open.

Sounds like Valo is a good boy. Nate same thing happens to me. Other day I went outside with an un clipped Pinky on my shoulder, with Peanut it is not a problem.
