Default Spring is Over!!

Those of you with mature birds are probably thrilled it's summertime also!

It was actually a good hormonal season. Not too much crumpiness or biting.

I ran into a day or two where Kady was guarding his sleep cage. It was the perfect time to teach him to go to a perch that I tapped, if he wanted to come out. He enjoyed the new routine in the morning and got a yummy peanut half for doing it that he forgot all about protecting his sleep cage!

Best of all Dear Kita had NO EGGS! Playing with her on the floor with toys has worked well so as not to over stimulate her. Prior to our floor time it never failed if I let her play on my lap or on the sofa, she would figure out how to turn it into a sexual overture within minutes. So teaching her new play activities took her mind off other things.

How did everyone else do during Spring hormones?

Out side of mounds of green and a few yellow feathers, it was a good season. Sounds to me like you've got this figured out, hurray for you. What a blessing to be able to enjoy your babies with little or no fuss at all.

This season was a learning experience for us too. This was Maple's very first hormonal season. Thankfully Harley is no where near there yet. Maple was cranky and biting, screaming and destroying things. She bit me so badly twice I have scars!! She loved me and hated me...all within 5 minutes! She shooed me away, protected me...and betrayed me!

She never laid any eggs! Thank God for small blessings.

We too are trying to figure out what works best for her to get her through this ever so difficult time for them. We learned couch play wasn't a good idea for her either. And that if allowed, she would take a liking to the back of my head. Hence...no playing on the back of the couch either. We learned that there are certain toys in the cages that should be removed. And that playing in her laundry basket is strictly out of the question.

I will be better prepared next time! And I am sure as the years go by it will become easier once we figure out her needs more and more.

It was a wondrous day when I realized it was all over and my precious snuggly girl had returned to me.

Now....she just never stops talking! LOL

"Hello? Mama? Peek a boo!"

I'm still not out of the woods here until the end of the month. Historically Tiki lays around the week of 7/16.

Glad it went well for you and your birdies!

Jazzy was pretty good about her hormones, however Prinny was horrible! I can tell for about the past months she's been a bit more calm, though.
