Default Save me, I've caught the MBS!

I had the opportunity to play with the most amazing 13 year old severe macaw today and I am absolutely smitten. Now I'm convinced that Schroeder needs a friend to talk to

Keep me away from petstores and rescue notices please!! Or at least tell me some awful things about severes.

Its not fair, I'm moving in a few months to a really big townhouse and will have so much room and thick walls :X

Ha! I can tell you that many Severe owners say that they can be quite......challenging, how's that? I'm sure a Severe owner will be along shortly.

You know what, I'm so foolish!

50+ years is a huge commitment that I've already made to my Schroeder baby. I think I just got so caught up in how goofy and fun the bird I met today was that I didn't really stop and think.

I tried to find a way to delete this board but I don't think that I can. I can just use the money I would have spent on a new bird/cage/toys on my little CAG and make sure he's extra spoiled.

*resolves to be good*

Besides, I think my housemate wants to get herself a dog when we move in.

MBS happens to the best of us! I don't know anything about Severes but I am sure someone will come along that does.

I've read that you shouldn't put African Greys and Macaws in the same house. Something about all of the dust the grey produces causes respiration problems for the macaw.

I want a blue and gold so bad. But because of that I'll prolly never have one.

It can be done you just have to keep that in mind and make sure that the birds are extra clean, their enviroment is constantly cleaned and that you have air purifiers running all the time

MBS....I guess thats Macaw Bird Syndrome?? If so I catch that everytime I go to Bird Paradise!!!!! Luckily my credit cards are maxed so I am halted at this point from making anymore further purchases (sorry Kathie!) but man its hard to resist those guys isn't it?? My husband is no help either, standing over my shoulder whispering ways of getting money in my ear, like what we can sell, etc. I told him no more bird purchases, that anymore birds will be rescues or rehomes.

I wanted a severe till I heard exactly how challenging, (I am a bit too soft hearted) also decided against a grey for the dust reason. MBS is multiple bird syndrome, it is where you start with one and get so much pleasure that in a relatively short period you are suddenly sharing your home with so many more, and is was not as if you went bird shopping. Second hand birds seem to find ways into your home, and I have no idea how this happens.

The real problem is with cockatoos and macaws. Macaws are very sensitive to 'too dust. I know of many people who have greys and macaws with no problems whatsoever.

Dust is dust. If you do decide to bring that baby home, just make sure you have a GREAT HEPA filter running and change it often. Any time you mix a powder bird with a macaw, you run the risk of sensitivity. It may not happen right away, it may not happen at all, but it CAN happen. You just need to make sure you provide as much fresh air as you possibly can.
