Default recording this years molt

So I clip Eve and dont you know he started moulting already! Lost 4 flight feathers in two days. But on the upside......The hormones are off, (but beak color hasn't changed yet) and the house is back to having a vasa that doesn't make a peep, plays all day on his play stand with no desire to get into trouble and occasionally comes over for some snuggles. Happy and independent, no mare crawling up my but every 2 seconds, or dive bombing people. (yes, clipped and missing 4 flights he can still fly rather well if he chooses)

This year I am recording how he molts, so far on Friday he lost one flight from each wing, same spot. And today he lost one more on each wing, again same spot, symmetricaly) The pattern is every other feather in the wing. So 4 down all together. I'm going to record when the tail starts and such as well. Kinda want to record the molting pattern as a whole, including time it takes to complete the molt.

So for now:

4 flights ( 6/21- 6/24)
and lots of down, but no body feathers. (6/23 down started)

...kind of don't know if I should reply & disrupt the 'thread'.

Good idea - hope it helps you & others. How's Poe's hormones? Been over for a visit lately?

I want people to interrupt, so no worries! Poe is still hormonal, so no birdie visits. Poe is also adjusting to his dads new boyfriend. So far Poe likes the new guy and things are going well. But I've taken a bite or two lately for being in the way. Hopefully Eve can visit soon!

I am always amazed how they replace wing and tails symmetricaly, although the suns do one set at a time and only the next 2 when the first 2 are half in. The tails also the get new from out side to inside 2 feathers at a time. It will be interesting to know how fast Eve drops feathers and how long the new feathers are before he drops more. How many tail feathers does Eve have?

2 more flights on 6/25 and 6/26
lots a down agian today 6/26

interesting note: on 6/23 he had an explosion of down feathers and than not one single down feather until today when yet another explosion of down feathers is on the floor. Odd since I would think that down feather would be a constant thing?

Rio & Laker use the same tactic - smaller explosions tho.
- it always seems to occur after I've just vacuumed up the last one.
