Default Potty Training

...I know this is bad but I am wondering how people untrain their fids to go as well they should. Bella had told me 'go poop' while in her cage and the moment I got her out....ugh out came the big morning poop. I thought she was just hamming it up but it seems to be something she just does the moment she comes out of the cage told or not. I've checked her paper and she's got poop of all sizes on the paper. I'm not training her to go but I wonder if she does not want that morning poop in the cage.

You can try to tell her to "go poop" and when she does, praise her and THEN take her out. Does she refuse to go in her cage, or is this something that happened for the first time today? Hopefully it was just coincidental!

Ollie will hold her morning poop for up to an hour in her cage. She does NOT want it in there! I bring her out every morning and hold a paper towel under her so it can just go immediately into the trash can. Other times she will poop in there, although infrequently- just not the big morning poo!

She isn't really potty trained- whenever I see her get ready to poop I always say "go potty!" However, she shows no inclination to go back to a "safe" zone from where she's at when she has to go. She rarely poops on me, but that is probably because whenever I see the signs, I always send her flying back to a gym. Then I tell her to go potty, she does, and then I call her back to me. It'd sure be nice if she would only poop on her gyms, but I don't think that's going to happen!

Camille -don't you worry about her getting used to only pooping on her stand and then holding it in while in her cage? I know- I know - I'm a worry ward!

No, its just the morning poop. She will still poop in her cage, but I've found them to all be bigger poops. She will hold it longer, but if she doesn't get let out then she will eventually go. At first I tried to make her stay in her cage for the morning poop, but she would wait so long that I would be late for class, so I had to just start letting her out right away.

Yeah, that's what Bella did today. Only once. She poops everything else in the cage except the morning poop. To be honest I don't blame her! Maybe it's the hen thing or instinct telling them not to let that thing go close to their home ground.

It makes me worried but I check her cage when I come from work. And there is poop. I just wonder if it's a conisidence. I took her out and well I saw the butt dropped. I made a mad dash for the bathroom and in the toilet it went. Ugh!

Lightbulb Re: Potty Training

this whole poop thing is very interesting. I never really gave much thought to the morning poop. But I do know that if Nelly is on my shoulder and has to go she will nibble my ear till I take her to a perch etc. It took awhile for her stupid human to realize this including a bite that went right through the cartilage of my ear owwww. So now at first nibble off we go
