Default Plucking or Molting?

Lucy has been dropping feathers like crazy latley. They are mainly the dark colored ones, not the new bright red ones, but I've found a few of those on the floor as well. I've heard that sometimes irds will molt after they've been serious pluckers, but havn't found any information to support this on the internet. I really hope we aren't going backwards...Things have been so good so far and Lucy is such a doll...

Yes it's molting season in the Northern Hemisphere. A seasonal molt is a good thing. Are there any pinfeathers on her head? FeathersnFur8 has a post from last week somewhere on here you can read about it and how to support her. Sorry I gotta rush off I'm putting my groceries away in the heat. :-)

Ollie is like a pin cushion right now and I'm vaccuming 3 times a day just to keep up with the down feathers. I'm sure it's just a molt. If she were plucking I'm sure there would be a big pile of feathers at the cage bottom and she'd have noticeable bare spots.

Dom, it is the season for molting. Maybe technically she's running just a little late, but not by much. So let's hope that's all that's going on.

My two are molting also. Kady is a little bit ahead of Kita and is covered in pin feathers. He literally dropped 30-40 feathers a day for several days in a row. He had a vet check a week or so ago and the AV was literally afraid to touch him. Her and the Tech were holding their breath and being so very careful with him.

Right now Kita is easily dropping 30 feathers a day and has been doing that for the last 5 days. I expect she'll be joining Kady's mood and be as miserable as all get out VERY soon.

I'm needing to vaccuum quite often as well. That and pick all the down feathers that stick to the cage bars. A few weeks ago when I found his long tail feathers on the floor, I was upset because I thought our kittens were attacking his tail while he's on his perch.. but they were all hollow and they're almost all growing back in.

Thanks! It's probably a molt, because there's feathers everywhere! You can see a few pin feathers comming in, and of course all the down from previously plucking. But I really consider this a blessing, after all, this means lots of pretty new feathers! Maybe we'll be fully feathered soon
